Revealing Truth Today

Standing for the truth and sharing Jesus with others!

How Mainstream Is Satanism?

Allow me to preface this blog study by saying that it is my prayer to strike a healthy balance in my blog. I want to expose evil as a warning; yet, my greatest desire is to help others to know of the amazing hope and power we can find in Christ. I want us to be so in love with Jesus that the things of this world fade away. However, we must realize that there are many who call themselves, “Christians” who are living a life of deception. It is my desire that something I can say or do (with God’s anointing) enlightens them and gets them on a good path, once again. Also, I desire to reach the lost and bring them to the loving Savior, Jesus Christ. As you read this blog, you will notice I give examples of real people who are involved in evil. This is not meant to demean them as human beings or to say that Jesus cannot save them… please understand. So, with that said, let us proceed.

How common is Satanism? The short answer is this: It is very prevalent and even more widespread than any of us realize. The reason it is important for us to be aware of this is because we are in a spiritual war every day. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Ephesians 6:12.  But also know this: God is greater/stronger than evil; scripture declares that in 1st John 4:4.  We, as God’s children, do not have to be fearful of evil (see Psalm 23:4). But, it is important we realize the destitute spiritual condition of our world; then we are more apt to pray fervently and witness more often. Knowing our enemy’s tactics will also give us vigor to be bold for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (see 2nd Corinthians 2:11). God gives us power to fight the good fight of faith. Luke 10:19 boldly declares, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” But we must be sure to use Jesus power/authority against demons and not our own power. As Christians, it is the blood of Jesus and the name of Jesus which gives us authority over darkness.

The Illuminati

Unfortunately, Satanism is becoming more mainstream and is being subtly (and not-so-subtly) introduced. Many of today’s entertainers are in a secret society of Satanists called “The Illuminati”. This secret society (founded by Adam Weishaupt in Bavaria in 1776) has been manifested in popular culture, in books and comics, television and movies, games, and music. They are all about mind-control and manipulation. Their desire is to create a New World Order. Not only does the Illuminati promote mind-control, but it also promotes idolatry. According to Galatians 5:20-21, those who practice idolatry will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God. Many think of idol worship as that of worshiping a golden calf or a statue. However, we see idolatry everyday right before our eyes. Celebrities, singers, and authors are looked up to and take the place of God in many people’s hearts. Remember what 1st John 2:15 teaches: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Jay-Z showing allegiance to Illuminati

Many of the so-called “artists” (past and present) in secular music have openly admitted that they have sold their souls to the devil. Others may not openly admit it but it is evident in most. For instance, Jay-Z has a song in which he says, “Murder, murder Jesus”. In his concerts thousands of people hold up the Illuminati symbol (a pyramid, triangular hand symbol) coupled with a repetitious chant. Many in the crowd act as if they are in deep worship to the Illuminati (Satan). Jay-Z acts as their “worship” leader. He also has a song entitled, “Lucifer”. He uses satanic symbolism in his music videos such as gothic costuming, voodoo, skulls, black crows, goat heads, a crucifix of Christ with two bullets on either side… it is truly sad. He even admitted that he has never read the Bible in his life. However, he is far from being alone in his worship to the Illuminati.

Lady Gaga – One eye symbolism

Popular singer, Lady Gaga, admits the songs on The Fame Monster album represented personal demons she had faced. While developing the album, she spoke of sin and demons being inside human beings. She referred to her concerts as “post-apocalyptic house parties”. Lady Gaga is quoted as saying that she has this strange recurring dream where there is a phantom in her home. She fears that the devil is trying to take her; nonetheless, she uses her nightmares to inspire her eccentric stage shows. Her wardrobe, props, poses, and makeup aren’t just happenstance. There is a long list of satanic symbols she uses; but suffice  it to say that one is “The Eye of Horus“. What is this? It is an ancient Egyptian symbol focusing on the eye. It is used in association with a cobra rising up in protection and with gods and  goddesses. First off, the cobra represents a snake – which is Satan, and gods and goddesses are false gods, not the true God of the Bible. If the right eye is highlighted it represents thoughts of possessing masculine energies (through a false god) such as solar, math, reason, words, and numbers. Then we move on to the left eye. If the left eye is highlighted, it represents the mirror image of the right eye and portrays what are considered feminine energies such as lunar, feelings, intuition, and private thought. When any performer uses this occultic symbol they are in essence saying, “My spiritual eye has been opened to see that I am a god.” (Reference Genesis 3:5 where the devil promises Adam & Eve that their eyes will be opened.) Pay close attention and you will see celebrities such as Lady Gaga,  Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Jay-Z (just to name a few) covering an eye with their hand or doing makeup in such a way as to focus on one eye. It would sound like a conspiracy theory if it weren’t so blatantly true. The glamorous, although made-up and glittering on the outside, have a very ugly spirit inwardly.

Emma Watson – Illuminati symbols

Luke 11:39 puts it like this: “You Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy–full of greed and wickedness!” Gang members have certain hand gestures to use as a code, signifying who they belong to. Likewise, many celebrities and singers will use these symbols and hand gestures signifying who they belong to. It isn’t coincidence… they know exactly what they are doing. While we can pray for such people to change, we know that many of them have made their mind up whom they will serve. In such cases, God will not force them to do good but He will turn them over to a reprobate mind, as stated in Romans 1.

Desensitization

Just because the spiritual realm is mostly unseen does not negate the fact that it is very real. There is an ongoing war between good and evil. Many books, movies, music, video games, and the like have evil undertones which open unsuspecting people up to the enemy. TV shows and movies such as: Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Twilight Saga, The Harry Potter Series, 666 Park Avenue, Long Island Medium, and many more have evil undertones which desensitize people to evil.

Oprah practicing Transcendental Meditation

We must be on guard. Proverbs 4:23 plainly says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Not only do certain types of entertainment harm us, but even things/actions can harm us and give Satan a foothold. Such evils with occultic roots are: Hypnotism, Fire Walking, Palm Reading, Good Luck Charms, Acupuncture, Black Magic, White Magic, Reading of Tea Leaves/Crystal Ball, Divination, Sorcery/Witchcraft, ESP/Psychics, Mediums, Necromancy, Eye Diagnosis (people who look into your eyes/soul to diagnose conditions), Relics, graven images of false gods, Fortune telling/horoscopes, UFOs (demonic manifestations), Levitation, Needle on a thread (to tell your future), Omens, False Religions, Quantum Physics, Transcendental Meditation, Wizardry, Yoga, Chants… and that is just to name a few! Bible Teacher, Bill McLeod once said, “Many of these things are baby steps to a deeper involvement in the occult. The devil doesn’t mind how innocently you start, as long as you wander over into his field.”

Throughout his ministry, McLeod also speaks of a phenomena which he calls The Phenomena of Resistance. He said that there was once a lady who couldn’t pray as a result of the enemy’s resistance against her. Every time she would try, a demonic force would cause her throat to close off. He also spoke of a lady who could not fold her hands to pray. Each time she would try, a demonic force would tear her hands apart. The aforementioned ladies, opened themselves up to demonic forces unknowingly. The one who could not pray opened herself up to this attack due to using the Ouija board. After praying for her and commanding the demons to leave, she could pray, one line at a time. After she began praying, she could then pray freely. Her former problems ended and the Lord Jesus set her free. Jesus freed both ladies.

Furthermore, the torment of bulimia was linked to occultic involvement (in some cases).  However, McLeod advises, “We must never assume that a person has a demon problem just because they are having psychological or some kind of a spiritual problem. We must never make this kind of assumption because sometimes you can hurt people when you’re trying to help them. I would say that 95% of the people who have occult manifestations or problems have been involved in some area of the occult. If people are not involved in the occult, it is very unlikely, [although not impossible] that their problem is of an occult nature.” He also tells about an Old Testament scripture in 1st Samuel 15:23 which says that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.  McLeod says, “So to God, a rebellious, stubborn spirit is just like being involved in witchcraft.” Perhaps, problems could arise simply because a person is stubborn and rebelliously resisting God’s Will. So, things that may appear harmless may be used by Satan to desensitize us to his lies.

Witchcraft, Wicca & Evil

It has been said that some people involved in witchcraft do not believe that Satan exists at all, while others involved in witchcraft do believe in him and worship him. Regardless of their stance, the truth of the matter is that neither group worships the One true Savior, Jesus Christ. Many Wiccans do not accept the fact that there is good and evil in the world. Even the Atheist is without excuse. Romans 1:18-21 states: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

According to the Word of God, all kinds of witchcraft (voodoo, black or white magic, any charms used for protection or destruction, etc.) are bad no matter what and no matter how the witches represent it to deceive the people. According to the book, Satanism in America, hard-core Satanism is “the fastest-growing sub-culture among America’s teens.”  There is also an increase in the number of self-proclaimed witches. Personally speaking, I used to have a job where a co-worker was a self-proclaimed witch.  Wiccans have successfully repackaged Satanism and witchcraft into a friendly, environmentally-concerned religion. Yet it is a religion that worships demons and Satan.

The daughter of a Wiccan author, Falynn Trayer, 17, is similarly breezy about her witchcraft. “I have no set rituals,” she said. “If I want a better grade at school, I may ask the god and goddess for their help, burn a candle — something like that.” You see, Satan is attempting to take God Almighty’s place. In fact, there are many covens of witches all over the U.S. and around the world.

Satanists and witches worship the moon and have evil rituals set around it; especially when it is a full moon. Deuteronomy 4:19 warns against this. “And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.” Likewise, Satanists and witches exalt nature. Romans 1:25 speaks of this very thing. “These people have exchanged God’s truth for a lie. So they have become ungodly and serve what is created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen!”

One Christian website, states it plainly. “Wiccans use their concern for the environment as a lure for recruiting young people into the occult. Tragically, public school children are attracted by Wicca’s commitment to protecting the earth. We need to protect the children first by keeping them away from witchcraft.” Not only do we need to keep children safe, but everybody needs to be safe and stay away from witchcraft. We need not be fearful, however, it is wise to run away from such evil. In fact, in Old Testament times, people were put to death by stoning if they were found guilty of contact with evil things. Leviticus 20:27 says, “Men and women among you who act as mediums or who consult the spirits of the dead must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of a capital offense.” Thank God that we are now under the grace of Jesus, however, that does not give us a license to sin. After all, we know that all sin will be punished unless it is forgiven and under the blood of Jesus. Refraining from evil is for our own protection.

Helpful Scriptures

1st Corinthians 10:20-22 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Leviticus 20:6 If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.

Isaiah 8:19 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead?

Isaiah 47:11-14 But evil shall come upon you, which you will not know how to charm away; disaster shall fall upon you, for which you will not be able to atone; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing. Stand fast in your enchantments and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you may be able to succeed; perhaps you may inspire terror. You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame…

Ephesians 5:11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

2nd Chronicles 33:6 Manasseh also sacrificed his own sons in the fire in the valley of Ben-Hinnom. He practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the Lord’s sight, arousing his anger.

Malachi 2:17 You have wearied the Lord with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” By saying, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them”…

Revelation 21:8 But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars–their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

Ephesians 4:27 And give no opportunity [foothold] to the devil.

Watch What You Watch

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you which is good and pleasing and perfect.”  ~Romans 12:2

By now, most of us have heard about the tragic shooting that took place in Aurora, Colorado at the Aurora Century 16 movie theater. The deadly rampage targeted people inside a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises”. According to Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly, the shooter had painted his hair red and was in a costume, stating that he was the “Joker”, a character in the film. According to the New York Daily News website, the suspect arrested was 24-year-old James Holmes, who would later boast to police that he was “channeling Batman’s arch nemesis.”

This raises many questions:

Are all movies simply “harmless entertainment”?

Do some movies/video games inspire violence?

Is it possible that some movies are demonic?

To answer these questions, let’s look at the facts. In the journal, Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, researchers report that watching violence portrayed in movies and other media may make teens more accepting of violence. Also, let’s consider a few incidents of where murder/violence was connected to violent and evil movies/video games. As you may recall, in 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold launched an assault on Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, murdering 13 and wounding 23 before turning the guns on themselves. According to Serendip, an educational website, Harris and Klebold both enjoyed playing the bloody, shoot-’em-up video game Doom, a game licensed by the U.S. military to train soldiers to effectively kill. The Simon Wiesenthal Center, which tracks Internet hate groups, found in its archives a copy of Harris’ web site with a version of Doom. He had customized it so that there were two shooters, each with extra weapons and unlimited ammunition, and the other people in the game could not fight back. For a class project, Harris and Klebold made a videotape that was similar to their customized version of Doom. In the video, Harris and Klebold were dressed in trench coats, carried guns, and killed school athletes. They acted out their videotaped performance in real life less than a year later. Furthermore, the movie, “Natural Born Killers” was also an influence for the perpetrators of the Columbine massacre, with the phrase “going NBK” in the journal entries of the killers signaling the start of their rampage.

There are other movies which have been linked to murders, suicides and attempted suicides. Movies such as: Scream, Money Train, A Clockwork Orange, The Collector, The Basketball Diaries, The Matrix, Taxi Driver, RoboCop 2 ,Magnum Force, The Deer Hunter, The Program, The Child’s Play series, Girl Interrupted, Twilight, and probably many more which were not recorded. It was also reported that the movie, “Breaking Dawn”, caused many people to have seizures who had never had photosensitivity epilepsy or seizures before. Furthermore, a 1997 episode of “Pokemon” caused nearly 700 viewers to suffer seizures. This brings to mind an occurrence in the Bible. Remember the account in Luke 9 where a boy had seizures due to a demon? I will list the scripture below – but it is safe to say that, yes, some movies can be demonic.

Luke 9:37-43MSG states: “When they came down off the mountain the next day, a big crowd was there to meet them.  A man called from out of the crowd, “Please, please, Teacher, take a look at my son. He’s my only child.  Often a spirit seizes him. Suddenly he’s screaming, thrown into convulsions, his mouth foaming. And then it beats him black and blue before it leaves.  I asked your disciples to deliver him but they couldn’t.”  Jesus said, “What a generation! No sense of God! No focus to your lives! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this? Bring your son here.”  While he was coming, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into convulsions. Jesus stepped in, ordered the vile spirit gone, healed the boy, and handed him back to his father.  They all shook their heads in wonder, astonished at God’s greatness, God’s majestic greatness.”

Not only can evil, demonic movies affect the watcher, but it can also affect the actors/actresses/film makers in a negative way. Olin Miller once said, “According to the reformers, most of the movies have unsound effects.” Pastor Mark Driscoll, of Seattle, echoes this sentiment by saying, “A movie is a sermon with pictures.”  Again, we must watch out for what we are allowing ourselves to watch. Mail Online produced an article entitled, “The Curse of Batman”. In the article, the reporter states: The devastating shooting at a screening of the new Batman film comes after a string of tragic incidences surrounding the film franchise that has led some to say the film is cursed. Before this shooting spree, one of the greatest tragedies associated with the film was the death of Heath Ledger, who played the Joker in The Dark Knight. The actor was found dead in his Manhattan apartment in January 2008 after taking an accidental drugs overdose, six months before the film’s release. Conway Wickliffe, a New Zealand-born special effects technician, died while working on that film. He was on a camera truck filming a stunt when it crashed into a tree in October 2007. Another cast member was struck by the ‘curse’ of Batman – but fortunately survived. Morgan Freeman, who played Lucius Fox in the film, was seriously injured in a car accident in Mississippi in August 2008. His co-star, and the star of the franchise, Christian Bale, hit the headlines in July 2008 when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister shortly before the London’s premiere. The sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, suffered upsets during filming. A stunt double for Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman, reportedly crashed into expensive camera equipment during filming in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in August last year. Days later the Batwing vehicle was half destroyed in an accident.

Furthermore, New York Daily News reported the following:  Heath Ledger thought landing the demanding role of the Joker was a dream come true – but now some think it was a nightmare that led to his tragic death. Jack Nicholson, who played the Joker in 1989 – and who was furious he wasn’t consulted about the creepy role – offered a cryptic comment when told Ledger was dead. “Well,” Nicholson told reporters in London, “I warned him.” Ledger told reporters he “slept an average of two hours a night” while playing “a psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy.” Tony Timpone, editor of the fantasy magazine Fangoria, said the movie should do well, despite the “cloud over it” from Ledger’s death. “It’s going to be tough, because the Joker is such an indelible character, and Heath was such an indelible actor. It could be tough to disassociate ourselves from reality. Because the movie looks like it’s going to be so dark, and his life had such a dark end.”

My whole reason for producing this blog post is to sound the warning – NOT ALL ENTERTAINMENT IS HARMLESS. Satan cleverly packages evil in a movie, in a video game, in a book, in something that seems harmless – but beware. It’s much like Las Vegas with all of its lights and shimmer – it looks beautiful on the outside but it is known as “Sin City.” The outside of a cup or dish may be clean and sparkling, but if it is dirty on the inside, who would want to drink or eat from it? In Matthew 23, Jesus teaches how foolish it would be to strain your water for gnats, yet swallow a camel. Likewise, He went on to say, “…Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too” Matthew 23:25-26NLT. How does watching a violent movie please the Lord or make us more like Christ? What is our heart-felt motive for wanting to view such evil movies? Aren’t there better things we could do with our time? Those of us who bear the name of Christ are to be a light in this world and to come out from among the sin of the world. What is the point of filling our minds with stupidity, evil, violence, and filth? Please friend, watch what you allow yourself to watch or engage in. Only when we lay aside these weights and hindrances will we see the Holy Spirit move strongly in our lives. Only then can we overcome sin and be more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. Only then can we truly make an impact on the world around us for the good.

“All the ways of a man seem right to him, but the Lord evaluates the motives.” ~Proverbs 21:2

“Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.” ~Ephesians  5:10-11

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” ~Ephesians 5:15-16ESV

Twilight Saga Exposed

In this blog entry, I will be discussing the unrecognized evil and deception in the Twilight Saga. The bulk of this post is from a website review and a scholar, but it also includes my original writing, as well as scripture from the Holy Bible.

The popular Twilight Saga (books and movies) have a huge following. Part two of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” appears in theaters November 16, 2012. The books/movies consist of a storyline surrounding vampires. Before we delve into the topic of vampires, please note the images for these book covers.

For example, notice the image on the first Twilight book; it is an image of hands holding an apple. The original sin recorded in the Holy Bible was when Eve ate the fruit from the tree which she was forbidden to eat fruit from. We see the apple, on this book cover, held in a sacred, careful way – as if sin is being caressed. One more example is the book with a scarlet string on the cover. In the Old Testament scripture found in Lev. 14:50-57, the instructions given by God at that time were this: “To purify the house he is to take two birds and some cedar wood, scarlet string and hyssop. He shall kill one of the birds over fresh water in a clay pot. Then he is to take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet string and the live bird, dip them into the blood of the dead bird and the fresh water, and sprinkle the house seven times. He shall purify the house with the bird’s blood, the fresh water, the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop and the scarlet string. Then he is to release the live bird in the open fields outside the town. In this way he will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean. These are the regulations for any infectious skin disease, for an itch, for mildew in clothing or in a house, and for a swelling, a rash or a bright spot, to determine when something is clean or unclean…” This was the regulation for that time. We see an image of a scarlet string on one of the saga’s book covers. Why an apple? Why a scarlet string? Why the blood-dipped flower? Why the Chess table with the King at the forefront? It is all subtle imagery that has mocks God and everything good in a sinister, under-handed way.

Having said that, let us move on to the topic of Vampires and what they represent. Vampires are mythological/folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of living creatures. The original meaning of the word, “vampire” is: “An animated corpse with supernatural powers who drinks blood to sustain life.” The supernatural powers are not used for good but evil.

Vampirism has now become something that is equated with a religious experience. For the most part “vampires” in the ancient cultures were demi-gods. With the coming of the Victorian age, both the male and female vampire became beautiful and both exhibited a sexual appetite, though both vampire and vampiress retained the beauty as only a facade. In anger or distress the vampire still revealed its ugly, more corpse-like side.

A scholar who studied vampires said, “Now it is a given that sex is part of the vampire package. It is so linked with them, that it’s almost a second way of feeding. A vampire without sex is like a meal that consists only of the drink. (Sex before marriage and promiscuity is being marketed to young teen girls through the Twilight Saga). And when evil is afoot, it can be concluded that the evil would want that blood. Somewhere in there began a demon or demi-god or spirit that began to drink and steal that blood. I have not seen a historical or folkloric vampire do anything but evil. Many vampires attacked their families first before anyone, but less out of revenge, it seems, and more because the body recognized them and went to them first; though the demon part led the body to do evil against people they would normally not harm. This is evident in that loving husbands turned into vampires would seek out their wives, yet literally exhaust them to death in bed.

The belief for reversing vampirism is there is no hope for the person who is already a vampire. (Teaching “no hope” is the cause for many suicides.) Supposedly, precautions can be taken in life, but once someone rise as a vampire, they’re stuck as one until someone takes care of the problem which include staking, decapitation, and cremation. As for those who have been bitten by a vampire, they can avoid rising from the grave as a vampire by any number of ways including, but not limited to: drinking the blood of a slain vampire or making the blood into bread or gruel to be eaten, eating of the earth of the vampire’s grave, or being blessed by a priest. (But man does not take your sin away, only God can. He is our High Priest.)

Vampires are often staked through the heart… why? The historical vampire is believed to be either 1.) A dead body possessed by a demon; or 2.) A soul still trapped in a body– either through its own volition, or through a curse, such as excommunication. The reason why the vampire is staked through the heart probably lies with the very ancient notion that the heart is the seat of the soul. Dating back to the ancient Egyptians (or before), the heart was held with reverence because that is where the soul was believed to reside in the body, as well as the emotions and intelligence. So, we see that vampires (whether real or fiction) have evil roots and are inherently evil.

A website reviewing the Twilight movies states, “The Volturi (a group of vampires in the movie) are a ‘civilized’ coven of vampires.” The word, “coven” literally means: “An assembly of witches.” They enforce the laws of the vampire world. They invite other vampires with powerful “gifts” to join their coven. (The New Testament of the Holy Bible speaks of good spiritual gifts… however these vampire “gifts” are a mockery and counterfeit of the real supernatural gifts of God.) This coven destroys anyone who attempts to overthrow them or resist their authority.

The Volturi are known for their amazing and special powers. Jane and Alec, twins and members of the guard, are credited and worshiped for having the most useful powers. Jane can cause someone to believe that they are feeling excruciating pain, making it easy for the Volturi to attack and destroy their enemies (which mimics satanic powers used to torment). Alec’s powers are also useful when attacking. He can cut off all senses making the prey unable to see, hear or feel anything, enabling the vampires to kill them without a fight. Aro, one of the leaders, can hear every single thought a person/vampire has ever had upon making physical contact with that person (similar to a psychic which is also evil and a counterfeit to genuine Christian prophet. Such evil fortune-tellers were condemned in scripture, as in Jeremiah 27:9, for example).

Demetri, a member of the guard, is a tracker. He can track a person down once he has the tenor of their mind. He is known as the best tracker in the vampire world. (One who goes about seeking whom he may devour – which is characteristic of Satan – see 1st Peter 5:8). Renata, also a member of the guard, is a shield who shields Aro and stands by his side at all times. She shields physical attacks. When the person/vampire is attacking, she repels them by confusing them. (Incidentally, Satan is known as the author of confusion. Her being a “shield” is also a direct mockery of God being a shield for the Believer – see Psalm 3:3). Although they don’t make any appearances in Twilight, Aro, Marcus and Caius are mentioned by Edward as the inspiration of the gods in several Italian paintings.

The Volturi are first introduced in New Moon. Near the beginning of New Moon, Edward says to Bella that irritating the Volturi was the perfect way to get yourself slaughtered. When Edward thought Bella killed herself (another reference to suicide), he went and asked the Volturi to kill him and they refused. This underlying reference teaches teenagers the message that if their “true love” dies that they should look for ways to die too. This is a very unhealthy teaching in this movie. Later in the movie, Edward, Alice, and Bella refuse to join the Volturi; thus, portraying them as the “good” characters of the movie so that they may easily introduce ideas of suicide, vampirism and other evils to the viewer.

As the movie progresses, the vampire Irina informs the Volturi that the Cullen’s had created an “Immortal Child.” (This reference is a direct, bold, and satanic counterfeit for Jesus Christ who is immortal). There are many other examples I could give of evil which is openly displayed in the Twilight Saga, however, suffice it to say that this movie is hardly suitable viewing material for anybody, let alone, young Christian girls. Let’s spread the message of this deceptive movie to prevent others from watching and thus, supporting it.

Why would we, as Christians, want to view or read a “love story” about vampires as in the Twilight Saga? What is the attraction? Aren’t we supposed to be set apart from the world and against works of darkness? How can one love evil and good at the same time? Just because this is the 21st century it does not make it “okay” to let down our morals. Some may argue, “I’m a Christian and I watch the Twilight movies… it’s just a fictional story!” Then, my question would be, “Why?” Is the cost of entertainment worth endorsing an evil plot? Are you comfortable with the idea of paying your money to support evil? Aren’t your peers, children, friends, or family looking at you to lead a Christian life? Would your choices of entertainment be a good example to follow? Isn’t there more savory movies you could watch that are not ridden with evil, blood, mockery and death? Would you be comfortable watching this movie in the sanctuary of your church along with fellow Christians and the Pastor? The Bible says that MANY will be deceived in the last days – don’t be one of them. Think about what you are doing, my friend. You have a choice. It is up to you to be disciplined enough to stand against evil in any form. Evil movies affect us more than we realize. 2nd Corinthians 6:17 states, “Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.” Likewise, 1st John 2:15 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

“The Hunger Games” EXPOSED

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” ~2nd Corinthians 10:4

The popular fiction book, “The Hunger Games” has been made into a movie and will be released in theaters on March 23, 2012. It is the first movie of a trilogy. The other two movies to follow are, “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay”. Before we proceed, let’s review (what I call) a “red flag word/phrase.” The name of the second movie is what? Catching Fire?! Does that bring any imagery or thoughts of Hell to mind? We must be very sensitive to these “red flag” words and/or phrases.

In The Hunger Games, we find there are two major themes – rebellion and murder. The storyline is that the post-Apocalyptic Capitol (formerly North America) holds an annual televised event called “The Hunger Games.” Each district must draw the names of a boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18. There were originally 13 districts before the Capitol destroyed one, leaving 12. Biblically, the number 13 represents rebellion; so we find the theme of rebellion still being evoked ever-so subtly. Altogether, there are 24 youths chosen to become contestants (called “tributes”). They must fight to the death in a vast arena. The lone survivor returns home to wealth and fame.

Let’s stop for a moment and review some significant “red flag” symbolism and counterfeit “spin-offs” from scripture. First off, we find that the 13 districts (13 representing rebellion) dwindled down to 12. Is there any significance in the number 12? In scripture, we find there are 12 tribes of Israel (God’s chosen) and 12 disciples of Jesus who were chosen by Jesus. It appears these 12 boys and 12 girls are the “chosen ones” much like a disciple would be chosen by Jesus; only these 12 boys and 12 girls are chosen for evil – to kill others for wealth, and fame. The number 12 also represents government – so the subtle symbolism is there, since it is the government (Capitol) who have The Hunger Games. It is not coincidence that these references match up; this often happens when something is counterfeit for the truth. The devil is sly and clever; so he will make the counterfeit look genuine. He will make something horribly bad look good and noble. Many admire the character Katniss for taking her sister’s place. “How sweet,” the movie-watchers will say, “She’s so good.” Once they see her as “good” then they can be introduced to other evils and accept them easily. As we continue, we find there are 24 “tributes” chosen for the games. Let’s review the number 24… is that number of any significance? In scripture, the number 24 represents a higher form of Heavenly government and worship. Think of the 24 elders in Heaven who worship God. Revelation 4:4 declares, “Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.” There is also other symbolism present in the movie such as the mockingjay pin worn by Katniss. It is said to be a hybrid bird that represents rebellion.

The author, Suzanne Collins, admits that the books were partly inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Anytime you read about Greek mythology, you will find it is inundated with false gods, goddesses, evil, and idol worship. So, for this to be her inspiration seems to further validate the point that it is not written to glorify God. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I [the Lord God] am holy’” 1st Peter 1:16. Also, 1st Corinthians 10:31 states, “… do all to the glory of God.”

Authors Stephen King and Stephanie Meyer are among many that sing the praises for The Hunger Games trilogy. However, it’s like the old saying goes, “Consider the source.” King as well as Meyer are known for writing dark novels. Other reviewers are noting that the trilogy is dark, mad, and twisted; yet, they still give it 4-star reviews! Remember, “Birds of a feather flock together.” The influence of evil will always confuse bad for good. Romans 1:25 says, “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie…”

In the storyline, the fictional President Snow defends the games by saying, “Freedom has a cost,” and that its winners are reminders of the government’s “victory and forgiveness.” He makes it clear he believes that “a little hope is effective; a lot of hope is dangerous.” Now, wait a minute. The cost of freedom is children being sacrificed to death for the government’s “victory and forgiveness”?! Are you kidding me?! Jesus is the only One who was worthy to purchase our freedom, victory, and forgiveness. Although The Hunger Games is fictional, it has some very sacrilegious statements. Also, the President Snow states that “a lot of hope is dangerous” – reminds me of how false this statement is. We have amazing hope in Christ and it isn’t the least bit dangerous. In fact, hope is all that keeps us going many times! Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Why would we want to watch a movie that teaches “hope is dangerous”?

Near the end of the movie, there are only 2 “tributes” (contestants) left – Peeta and his crush, Katniss. At the last moment, a voice announces that the rules have changed and only one of them can survive. Only one contestant can win, meaning the tributes (friends, Peeta and Katniss) must fight each other to the death. Peeta and Katniss threaten to eat poisonous berries simultaneously and die together. The Gamemakers, knowing a double suicide will be an unsatisfying conclusion for the audience, quickly uphold their earlier ruling. Suicide as a solution is being taught in this movie. With cutting, self-harm, drug/alcohol abuse, and depression at an all-time high, how is it okay to show suicide as a solution? These subliminal messages go into the hearts and minds, and are directly inspired by Satan. We find in Matthew 4 that Satan tempted Jesus with suicide when he tempted him to jump off the highest point of the temple; however, Jesus resisted Satan. But, will weaker ones have the strength to resist Satan when he constantly and falsely puts suicide in front of them as a solution to a problem?

There are many other evil symbols, themes, counterfeits, and influences contained in The Hunger Games trilogy which we have not covered – such as Katniss calling the woods her “savior” and devoting her Sundays to hunting in them; or the hauntingly close parallel to the Capitol arena mimicking the Roman Coliseum where many Christians endured cruel deaths. But, suffice it to say that this movie is hardly suitable for Christians to watch (or anybody else, for that matter).

A review of the movie by editor Douglas Wilson says: “Suppose the Capitol bad guys had decided to set up a different required sin in their games. Suppose it were the Rape Games instead. Suppose that the person who made it through the games without being raped was the feted winner. Anybody here think that this series would be the bestselling phenomenon that this one is? In short, when you have the privilege of setting up all the circumstances artificially, in order to give your protagonist no real choice about whether to sin or not, it is a pretty safe bet that a whole lot of people in a relativistic country, including the Christians in it unfortunately, won’t notice.”

In closing, I like what one mom wrote. She said, “Allowing a child to feed on something like this is just downright irresponsible! Parents don’t think for a moment that you will draw your child closer to Christ when they have been enveloped by the madness of books like this.”
