The Sovereignty of God

Preface: I am back from maternity leave and want to thank each of you who prayed and left such kind comments for me. Our baby girl, Clarissa Faith, is doing great and God has blessed us greatly! I also want to let my readers know that I will still upkeep this blog, but that my posts may be quarterly as I am very busy taking care of my newborn blessing.

Today, I am pleased to re-introduce you to my Christian friend and Guest Blogger, Jennifer Dunn. She has been my Guest Blogger before so it is great to have her return for another thought-provoking, comforting post. It was on her heart to discuss the sovereignty of God – and what an amazing, all-sovereign God He is!!

“The Sovereignty of God” By: Jennifer Dunn

_The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which the child of God rests his head at night, giving perfect peace._Some people think God is customizable; that they can make Him be whatever they want. They believe that He will tailor His ways to fit them… but, they are in error.

God does not personalize His precepts per individual.  His rule, His way of being and of doing, is supreme. He was here before us, He created everything. He is all powerful. In fact, scripture states the following:

“And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.] ~Colossians 1:17 (AMP)

…” I am the Lord God. I rule the world, and I can do anything!” ~Jeremiah 32:27 (CEV)

“To Him the nations are far less than nothing; God controls the stars in the sky and everyone on this earth. When God does something, we cannot change it or even ask why.” ~Daniel 4:35 (CEV)

He is also perfect, thus, His ways are better. Consider the following scriptures:

“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” ~Matthew 5:48 (ESV)

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~Isaiah 55: 8-9 (ESV)

His expectations and laws are the same for all. He does not change; not for any person or for our concept of time.

“For I am the Lord, I do not change ” ~Malachi 3:6 (CEB)

“Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” ~Hebrews 13:8 (CEV)

However, we are not merely His created slaves. We are His created beings, made in His image (see Gen. 1:26-27, Gen. 5:1-2, 1st Cor. 11:7). He is not a tyrannical dictator who is only about control. He is a God of understanding, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love. He guides our steps; not like a puppet master, rather, like a loving father who knows the way that is best for us (see Ps. 32:8, Pro. 19:21, Ps. 18:30, Deut. 32:4, Ps. 16:11). He is a God of wisdom and understanding, (see Jer. 10:12, Ps. 147:5, Pro. 2:6, 1st Sam. 16:7, Eph. 1:17, Is. 40:28). He is a God of mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love (see Ps. 86:15, Ps. 145: 8-9, John 3:16, Eph. 2:4-5, Ex. 34:6-7).

Exodus 34:6-7 (CEV)
“Then he passed in front of Moses and called out, ‘I am the Lord God. I am merciful and very patient with my people. I show great love, and I can be trusted. I keep my promises to my people forever, but I also punish anyone who sins. When people sin, I punish them and their children, and also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.'”

Ephesians 2:4-5 (CEB)
“However, God is rich in mercy. He brought us to life with Christ while we were dead as a result of those things that we did wrong. He did this because of the great love that he has for us. You are saved by God’s grace!”

So, may we not take The Lord’s grace for granted. Let us respect that His ways are higher than our ways. Let us walk in the path of righteousness, as He commands us, holding tightly to Him to serve Him with all our heart and with all our soul; that we may abound in His mercy, grace, peace, joy, love, and all the blessings He has in store for us.
