This particular blog entry will surround one major deception of our day – the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgendered) community and its cry for equality. Here lately, there has been so much talk about gay rights and equality. In case we forgot, homosexuality is still an abomination unto God. Without becoming too graphic, I will say that God even designed the human anatomy in such a way to let us know that when a man marries he belongs with a woman – not another man (or not two women together). Leviticus 18:22 plainly states, “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.” God loved us while we were yet sinners. He wants the LGBT individual to come to repentance, but He does not condone their participation in sin nor will He ever approve of it.
All of this talk of equality for gays does not hold water where God is concerned. He will not look away and say, “Oh well, you are going against my mandates and sinning – go ahead, be treated equally and come on into Heaven; I’ll just pretend that I didn’t see you sinning.” No way! That is not how God is. He is certainly not a limp-wristed pushover – He is God Almighty and He does not tolerate sin in any form. Before we delve deeper into this topic, allow me to reiterate that this is not a message of hate toward any one individual or group of people, but a wake up call for us to hate sin. As the preacher, A.W. Tozer put it, we should “love what God loves and hate what God hates.” God will forgive a repentant heart, but He will not overlook sin unless it is forgiven and abandoned.
I am not saying that gay people should be treated inhumanely – but we certainly don’t need to support such a distasteful lifestyle by legalizing or supporting it. Something as simple as watching the Ellen Degeneres show (an openly proud lesbian) or supporting a LGBT advocate, such as Lady Gaga, is a way to cast our vote as to who we stand with. Why would we, as Christians, stand with the world and support its ungodliness? It is wrong to strengthen the hands of evil-doers. If we don’t work for God, we are actually working against Him, according to scripture. Matthew 12:30 states: “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” God’s Word is very clear and it makes no apologies on this topic. Homosexuality is wrong and should not be endorsed.
My message and God’s message is not one of hate. Anytime something is disapproved of, many people automatically become offended, thinking it is done out of hate. Actually, the message is a warning to abstain from sin and it is done out of love – love for our fellow man and love for God’s Word. Loving a sinner and supporting them are two different matters. Jesus loved sinners but did not support them in sin. For example, I can love a drug dealer and treat him humanely but not give him money to enable his sin – just as I can love gays and treat them humanely without licensing them or supporting them in marriage. Personally, I wouldn’t seek out to form a bond or friendship with someone in the LGBT community simply because we would be on opposing teams, spiritually speaking, which would make a meaningful friendship impossible. Furthermore, we are commanded by scripture not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. But, if I have an interaction with a person that is gay, I will not treat them with hate either. I would wish to reach them with the love of Jesus and help them to find a better path.
And while we are on the topic, let’s understand one thing: There is no such thing as a “homosexual Christian“. That would be the same as an “honest liar“… it simply does not add up. The Bible says that if we are saved by the blood of Jesus we are to crucify our sins. Continuing to participate in the gay lifestyle is active sin. While sin is sin, the Bible says that God is especially hard on those with sexual sin. Homosexuality is an abomination unto a Holy God. The Bible also says that the homosexual will NOT enter the Kingdom of God (see 1st Corinthians 6:9-10). The Kingdom of God is synonymous with the Kingdom of Heaven. According to scripture, Christians (followers of Christ) WILL enter the Kingdom of Heaven while homosexuals will NOT. So how could one be a “homosexual Christian“? They couldn’t make their eternal home in two places, Heaven and Hell… it is one or the other. So, do not be deceived by this false idea. The good news, however, is that the individual practicing homosexuality can be delivered from this sin through Jesus.
Then, there is the controversial question over whether or not people are “born gay” or if they become that way later in life. If a person is exposed to sin early on and un-churched, he or she will likely not have the anchor of faith in Christ to fight off sin when it presents itself. But, for a person to claim they were “born this way” is a failed, weak attempt to try and excuse their sin. A person could just as easily say, “I was born a thief; I used to steal lollipops at the store as a child, so I am doomed to stay this way.” But a good parental swat on the seat of the pants can make the little thief lose their desire to steal and teach them of its consequences. The consequences for sin are not there so much as punishment as they are there as a deterrent – and for our own good. We are born into sin, with a sinful nature, but God’s grace can cleanse us. So what difference does it make whether or not a person is “born” a certain way or not? That is an irrelevant question. The most important question is, “Have you been born again?“
John 3:1-12 tells the way to be born again: “There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. ‘Rabbi,’ he said, ‘we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.’Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.’ ‘What do you mean?’ exclaimed Nicodemus.’How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?’ Jesus replied, ‘I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say you must be born again. The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.’ ‘How are these things possible?’ Nicodemus asked. Jesus replied, ‘You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things?'”
Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion – that is true. But when opinions don’t line up with the infallible Word of God – we need to readjust our views. Everything I am teaching in this blog is scripturally-sound. We need to take God’s Word seriously. According to 1st Corinthians 6:9, the Bible (not me, but scripture) says that those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or the effeminate (men who act like women), or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or those who cheat people will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God unless they are forgiven and change their unholy ways. So my question remains – who are we to support rights for something that will lead someone to Hell? Doesn’t that go against a Christian’s mission in life? There is nothing hateful or unholy about standing up for the truth. In fact, it takes courage – a great deal of courage to have an unpopular, socially-unacceptable viewpoint. A quote by Elbert Hubbard says it like this: “To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” As I have said before, people are so concerned with being politically-correct that they are morally-wrong.
Scripture says that God did not even spare the angels who disobeyed but He sent them to Hell with Lucifer. We are made a little lower than the angels, so we will not be spared from Hell IF we habitually, knowingly partake in sin. The Bible says that He is especially hard on those with sexual sin; those who follow their own desires and on those who despise authority. False teachers or people that teach false beliefs about God and the Bible are useless. They are under God’s curse and are doomed to the blackest darkness. This type will brag about themselves, have twisted sexual desires, they will lure those who have barely escaped sin back into a lifestyle of deception (see 2nd Peter 2). So anybody that teaches contrary to God’s Word and advocates homosexuality is a false prophet. For yet more proof that homosexuality is a sin, please see Romans 1:24-32.
The thing that perplexes me is that many Christians support gay rights. How could we openly support something that our Father God hates? Does mankind’s opinion mean more to us than our Heavenly Father’s wishes? Again, we can still treat these individuals humanely without supporting their sin. I am not trying to start something – I’m trying to end the deception. I hope that if your opinion is contrary to scripture that you would reconsider your stance.
